It is not clearly understood that the Geisha are highly trained in all the Arts, not one. The concept of mastery of all Arts does exist in Chinese but I've forgotten what the word is. I thought sharing this different view adds a different context to what is commonly understood. It is not unknown in either China or Japan for women who were Geisha to also be known as Masters of Ninjitsu, Samurai or even great Generals masterful in warfare.
People become known as Masters of their Arts via all kinds of paths. None approach it from mere coercion. Just how far this goes is not understood or believed in the West. There is a famous case of an American soldier who during WWII fell in love completely with a Japanese spy who was considered by the soldier to be Geisha, in fact the spy was an Actor classically trained in the Noh tradition where all actors are male. The soldier, I believe, died in his old age never accepting this truth.
There are great Arts of all kinds, all to be respected if not admired or understood. History has proven the effectiveness of them all. There is an interesting documentary (which validates this point) where a test was done where traditional Ninjitsu methods were applied against the combination of outstanding modern technological surveillance, trained bodyguards in full body armor gear with weapons. I don't pretend anyone is interested so I won't provide that reference.
Just sharing.
Not sure about that -- but thank you - she is a pretty girl - but even better on the inside. xo
